How I Use Computers

I have two PCs and one Laptop.

• My main PC runs GNU/Linux.
• The laptop is broken and there is no OS on it.
• The other PC is ok, but I'm not using it at the moment, so there is no OS on it.

I used GNU Emacs to do most of my tasks. Now, besides standard unix tools (ls, cat, etc), I use:

• Text editor: Vim
• Shell: Bash
• C Compiler: GCC
• Net Scanner: nmap
• SSH: OpenSSH
• MTA: Sendmail
• MRA: Fetchmail
• MUA: mail and Mutt
• Browser: Lynx and Icecat when I need graphics.
• Download manager: wget
• FTP client: BSD ftp
• Telnet client: BSD telnet
• IRC client: EPIC
• Newsreader: tin
• Hex Editor: bvi
• X Window System: Xorg
• X Window Manager: Fluxbox
• Image manipulation: xine for viewing and GIMP for editing.
• Audio player: ogg123 and mpg123
• Video player: xine
• PDF viewer: Xpdf

I guess that is pretty much it. Most of the time I don't even bother starting up an X session. I only use X when I really need graphics.

I like to play chess at FICS, mostly through telnet, but sometimes using the Eboard GUI.

Sometimes I like to play games too.
