February 25, 2010: Man sentenced to pay 1.3m to Nintendo
Australian man agreed to pay $1.3m to Nintendo for sharing the Wii version of Super Mario Bros.
Compare this with the Thomas Rasset case.
The copyright insdustry is closing in, what are we going to do about it? Well, I know what I'm going to do. I will continue to share music and films ilegally over the Internet and I will continue to refuse to go to the theaters or buy a album. Those bastards won't get a penny out of me. Amd I will use proxys, firewalls, self destructing systems and every avaliable security method to stop them from obtaining evidence to sue me with.
February 25, 2010: Backdoor in Gmail accounts
Google created a backdoor acess system into Gmail accounts. Too much for criticising China, eh Google?
Governments all around the world are passing laws giving police new powers of Internet surveillance. What are we going to do about it? Well, I'm looking foward to remove my Gmail account. This shows that being paranoid does not mean I'm wrong.
The Open Graphics Device v1, a open hardware platform, is being developed and tested. I would be glad to see such Free and Open hardware in the market. That's a nice project.
February 25, 2010: Microsoft attacks free software
Microsoft asked for references to free software to be removed from a document presented at UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) conference.
They also said that free and open source software developers are "dorks" and that people in Africa are poor and does not need freedom.
February 25, 2010: Don't buy Intel products with AMT
Intel found a new way to attack your freedom. It's called AMT, which stands for Active Management Technology. It is basically a backdoor put into Intel hardware which allows Intel to gain total control over the machine. They can install software, turn off your machine, and do anything they want to without even warning you. Avoid Intel Core 2, Centrino and Centrino 2 processors with vPro technology, they all got AMT.
February 24, 2010: Internet Archive
I am hosting this web page files on the Internet Arhive now.
Read my review about it in my blog post.
Use and support Free Software - Software that respects the user's freedom. It's more an ethical than an practical issue. Developers, please release your programs under a free license, I recommend GNU GPL license. Also, there is the Free Software Foundation Campaigns that you should support and a list of priority free software projects. Software developers, please support these projects, your help with code, time and efforts is highly needed.
Use and support free collaborative projects like The Wikimedia Foundation Projects, Mutopia, Open Street Map, Tricki.
Support organizations that fight for freedom, environmental
protection and animal rights, such as
Public Knowledge,
Eletronic Frountier Foundation,
Circle of Life,
What's Your Tree,
Friends of Earth International,
People and Planet,
Dog Town.
If you see animals receiving bad treatment by its owners or suffering abuse, please report it to the authorities.
Let's press our governments to adopt a policy requiring that all digital public documents and information be stored and distributed in formats that are standard, open, and royalty-free such as ODF. Never use Microsoft Office proprietary formats, and boycott people and organizations (mainly universities and government organizations) which use them.
Boycott Coca Cola Company for using paramilitaries to murder union organizers.
Boycott Blu-ray and HD-DVD - Don't buy media with Digital Restrictions Management.
Recycle things, instead of just throwing them away.
Don't buy mainstream clothing brands (such as Nike), instead buy clothes from brands that respects workers rights and the environment, and are resistant so you won't need to replace them. Don't fall into the consumerism trap.
UNDER NO CIRCUNSTANCES use Skype - It encourages two or more persons to use non-free software simultaneously. Use and support Free Software replacements for Skype, such as Ekiga.
NEVER compress your files in RAR format, it generally requires non-free software to uncompress them, since the free version of unrar is quite limited.
I do not accept rar files.
Don't buy digital content from Saraiva
Brazilians - Don't buy anything from this page. It's clear that Saraiva don't care about its customer's freedom. In that page Saraiva recommends people to install their proprietary software to buy movies with DRM - Digital Restrictions Management, nasty features that restrict users from exercising their basic natural freedoms as living beings, and any attempt to circumvent these malicious features will put authors in jail. In this particular case, you are forbidden to share with your neighbors, you can only use the work under a proprietary system and need a proprietary program that WILL spy your computer use. This is the true encarnation of 1984! It's no surprise that their software only works with Windows, no other platform is best to gain control over the users.
Brazilians, demand that the government respect the freedom of software users. Read the history of this issue and the crimes that Receita Federal is comitting against the people of Brazil.
Last.fm users, Last.fm is spying on you, join Libre.fm, this is a free (as in freedom) replacement for Last.fm that respect your freedom and privacy. Another interesting projects are foocorp.org, and identi.ca.
Don't use the following words:
Linux - when referring to the entire OS use GNU/Linux
instead of just Linux.
Intellectual Property - it's a misleading term.
Piracy - pirate is someone who attacks ships.
Kung Fu - the correct term would be Chinese Wushu.
